Distributed Active-Redundant Architecture (DARA™)

The architecture of the CumulusPower™ was designed to respond to the highest availability requirements, through the implementation of the system's distributed decision-making in an event of a critical failure, and a correct management of the load sharing. The communication between the Intelligent Modules is accomplished by means of a fully redundant TripleMode™ communication BUS.

Flexible Intelligent Module (IM)

Each module is a complete UPS. Thanks to Centiel's long experience in module-design, the CumulusPower™ Intelligent Modules are equipped with three independent power converters, one static bypass, all hardware and all software (intelligence and monitoring) functions, making them fully independent and capable of safely isolating from the multi-module system whenever an internal fault occurs.

Maximum Efficiency Management (MEM)

CumulusPower™ incorporates an Intelligent MEM function which matches the number of modules to the load demand by monitoring the level of optimum energy efficiency. At low load levels, any modules no longer required to maintain redundancy are placed into Active-Sleep mode, reducing overall energy consumption. Active-Sleep modules are instantly online when load increases, maintaining maximum availability at all times.

Serviceability

What is the power range of the Centiel CumulusPower modular UPS?

CumulusPower is a modular UPS from 10kW to 3.6MW. The IM10/IM20/IM25 modules are rated 10/20/25 kVA=kW with frames of 50, 100, 150 and 250 kVA=kW (1-2, 1-4, 1-6 and 1-10 modules per frame) and a maximum of 1500 kVA=kW per system; the IM50/IM60 modules are rated 50/60 kVA=kW with 300 and 600 kVA=kW frames (1-5 and 1-10 modules per frame) and a maximum of 3600 kVA=kW per system.

How does CumulusPower eliminate a single point of failure in the UPS system?

The topology is online double conversion with DARA (Distributed Active-redundant Architecture), in which each Intelligent Module is a complete UPS with three independent power converters, one static bypass and all hardware and software functions, so it can safely isolate itself from the multi-module system when an internal fault occurs. Can the Centiel CumulusPower UPS be used with lithium batteries?

Yes — the datasheet cover carries a "LITHIUM READY" mark and the battery Type row lists Lead-Acid/NiCad/Lithium. Battery rated voltage is 360-480 Vdc (the number of batteries can be selected), with 20-50 blocks [LA]/cells [NiCad] (IM20/IM25 and IM50/IM60: 30-50) and a charger of 20 A per module on the IM10/IM20/IM25 frames or 40 A per module on the IM50/IM60 frames.

What are the operating temperature and altitude limits of the CumulusPower UPS?

Operating temperature is 0-40°C with no power derating and storage temperature is -40-70°C, at 0%-95% relative humidity (no condensing). Maximum operating altitude is 1000 m; above 1000 m there is derating of 1% for each additional 100 m. Audible noise is < 65dB.

What communication interfaces and monitoring options does CumulusPower offer?

The Basic communications option provides RS485, RS232 and 2 Dry Input; the Pro option adds Dry contacts, Ethernet and Bluetooth to the Basic set. The 19" Universal Racks include a connectivity board with 5x Dry output, 5x Dry Input, RS232, RS485, Bluetooth, Ethernet and a slot for SNMP.

Which standards and certifications does the Centiel CumulusPower UPS carry?

The datasheet lists EN/IEC 62040-1, EN/IEC 62040-2, EN/IEC 62040-3, CE and RoHS for every model. Output is a sine wave with THDv<1% for linear load and THDv<3% for non-linear load, and input THDi<3% for linear load and THDi<5% for nonlinear load.
